    Default Connecting PICSTART to Microcode Studio

    G'day again,
    I posted this request this morning and can not find it. So I apologise if it turns up elsewhere (have done a hunt and can't find it) Ok then my poblem.
    Have studio 3.0.0.5 and can not connect my PICSTART programmer to it. Does anyone know where the exe file is for the programmer. The studio search did not find it. The Picstart works ok with MPLAB, but of course want to use the nice features of Microstudio.

    May be you can find the Pk2cmd.exe file in the ... " C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPLAB IDE\ Pickit2 " folder ...

    AND may be you could use those parameters ...

    G'day
    Did a search for pk2cmd.exe and not found. But as I am not using the PicKit2, not sure if thats the correct file I need anyway.
    Have previously found picstart.dll but Microcode studio wants an exe device programmer file.

    Try a search on the Microchip page for the Pickit2 ... ( upper right of the page ... from my souvenirs )

    You won't find the COMMAND LINE program for Pickit elsewhere ...


    But as I am not using the PicKit2,
    This info is really interesting ...

    The PICSTART PLUS programmer requires MPLAB to run. The only stand-alone
    software I have ever seen for one was the older Warp-13 software, which showed up
    in MPLAB as a PICSTART PLUS programmer.

    I'm not aware of any way to setup this one to run from MCS.

    Hi,
    This is interesting... I've looked around a bit without finding any real info on this. What I found was some references to a Linux command like tool that could control the PICStart+ but nothing for Windows. But then I looked in the MCSP help file and found a screeshot where the PICStart+ is available in the programmer list in MCSP. (See attached picture).

    So it seems like it at least has been possible to run the PICStart+ from MCSP. OzGrant, have you had this working before but now can't after some update of MPLAB and/or MCSP?

    Alain, the fact that he's using PICStart+ and not PICKit2 was in the very first message ;-)

    Hi,

    Ok ... apologies for the Pickit ...

    Picstart ...

    caught in the .DLL

    !This program cannot be run in DOS mode.
    So ... de cause is lost !

    BUT what can be done is launch MPLAB.exe ...

    manually open the Program window and load the desired Hex file ... then hit the Program key.

    Would be much simpler to use full MPLAB features ...

    G'day All,
    This is the first time I have attempted to use Picstart with MCSP. Have just paid a few $'s for the Picstart upgrade so that I can burn 18F4550's, so it looks like I may have to buy a programmer that MCSP can drive.
    Have emailed Mecanique for their comment, as it appears there is a chance the Picstart is supported.
    So will do the editing in MCSP and download hex in MPLAB.

    The one good thing out of this post is that I now know how to post correctly.
